Summary

The study presented here was conducted between September 2006 and March 2007 at the Media Science Faculty of Trier University. The research project was realised with the support of Ifra and the Axel Springer publishing corporation. With their financial and organisational assistance, both partners contributed largely to the success of the study and its publication. Kai-Helmut Riese and Katrin Heyn from the Market Research/Events/Advertising Marketing Department of WELT and WELT KOMPAKT supported the recruitment of test persons and organised the delivery of the newspapers in the run-up to the study. Our thanks are due also to all those who participated in carrying out the project. Benedikt Bambach, Fabian Behnke, Simone Brandt, Dagmar Diener, Sebastian Erlhofer, Michael Groß, Lisa Keimburg, Susanne Klebba, Philipp Niemann, Björn Rohles and Sebastian Spang provided their support for data recording and evaluation. Special thanks to Nina Hertel, who helped organise and coordinate the project, Steffen Büffel for his active assistance with the evaluation, and to Christof Barth for valuable tips on methodology and the manuscript. Our gratitude goes also to Gabi Stephan for her support in compiling the report.
