Kompas wins Young Readers Prize on 50th Anniversary

On the 50th anniversary of its foundation, Kompas Gramedia – which remains the undisputed leading national diary in Indonesia – has clinched WAN-IFRA’s top World Young Reader Prize for 2015 for its multimedia approach to reaching a young audience and helping them become more active in society. Gilles Demptos met several Kompas executives, including Jakob Oetama, the paper’s co-founder and President Commissioner, to understand the reasons for this enduring success and long lasting spirit of innovation.

Publish Asia 2015: Back to Bangkok

In its 16th edition this year, Publish Asia – WAN-IFRA’s premier event for the news publishing industry in the Asia-Pacific region – took place for the fourth time in the vibrant city of Bangkok. With a unique format, Publish Asia offered four parallel conference tracks (CEO conference, Newsroom Summit, Printing Summit, Advertising Summit) and a technology and services Expo featuring 21 sponsors & exhibitors. Fairfax atomises news on Apple Watch

Fairfax Media has become one of the first publishers in Asia Pacific to launch a news app for the Apple Watch, with the offering joined by a new iPhone apps for its flagship publications, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

MediaCorp forms Digital Group

Singapore’s multimedia company MediaCorp has created a Digital Group to focus on products and services for online consumers and marketers. Shane Mitchell leads the Digital Group as Chief Digital Officer, reporting to Shaun Seow, Chief Executive Officer. The new group will be one of six in MediaCorp’s organisational structure, aimed at accelerating its digital transformation.

Trendsetting retrofits at Fairfax & Utusan

The Times of India (TOI) – which is the largest user of manroland web presses in India – relies on Colorman, Geoman, Regioman and double-width Cromoman presses at printing sites around the country. To continue building on its leading position, TOI has decided to expand its printing capacities in the Delhi region and increase its fl exibility in Mumbai.

Malay Mail implements WoodWing solutions

The Malay Mail, an Englishlanguage daily tabloid published in Malaysia, selected both WoodWing´s multichannel publishing system Enterprise and the company´s digital asset management solution Elvis DAM. The integrated solution sets the stage for further monetization of existing content.

MediaCorp and KLN form strategic alliance

Singapore-based media company MediaCorp and KapanLagi Network (KLN), an Indonesian digital media company, announced that MediaCorp has invested in a 52 per cent equity stake in the KLN Group which owns several successful web portals in Indonesia.

Fairfax boosts mobile native advertising with shorticles

Fairfax Media has partnered with the Singapore Tourism Board to produce a new series of list-style native advertising stories, known as ‘Shorticles’, that has been tailored for mobiles.

In celebration of the newspaper’s 170th anniversary this year, The Straits Times (ST), the English-language fl agship daily of Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH), has undergone a major revamp. Malaysia suspends The Edge

In a notice dated July 23, the Malaysian Home Ministry suspended the publishing permits of The Edge Media Group for three months, saying its reporting on the scandal swirling around state-owned company 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) threatened “public order”.
